Scribbles from KI MEMORIES

This week we are going to take a closer look at the mega popular Scribbles!  There are two varieties, Weekdays and Happy Words.  Each come in black glitter and white glitter.  See how fun they are

DT Member Lisa Dickinson created a fun grid on her layout and trimmed the Black Happy Words Scribbles for the top and bottom borders.

DT Member Jamie Waters used the White Weekdays Scribbles for her title.  She place them right on her photo.  Don't need the loops?  Trim them off and use just the word!

DT Member Dusti Nakamura used the White Happy Words Scribbles on her layout.  The 'believe' is perfect for a Christmas page!

8 Creative Tips for Creating on Canvas from Canvas Corp

8 Creative Tips for Creating on Canvas from Canvas Corp

The great thing about being creative on canvas is that there is no painting required to create works of art on canvas . Plus there is a new blank in town – natural canvas. Create works of art that are environmentally smart! Artists prefer canvas with gesso, the white substance that acts as a base for their artwork, but crafters prefer no gesso which allows virtually everything to be applied to the canvas including:
• Canvas loves ink and rubber stamps – the look is amazing as if the fabric was printed upon
•  Shimmer Mist including that of Tattered Angels and Creative Imaginations are perfect for adding color, spraying over stencils or over a mask .  Lay die cuts out and spray over them and then remove, leaving great shapes onto the canvas
•  Cover children’s hands with acrylic paint and place on canvas to capture the perfect handprint – make a collection
•  Rub-ons are abundant in the craft market and there are so many great designs, they look amazing on canvas and blend right into the fabric.  We have tried many different varieties and they all work great.
•  We love gluing big flowers onto canvas for a quick trendy look for little girls rooms or your office.  Add ribbon to finish the look

•  Canvas takes on so many different looks depending on how you treat the fabric – mists give it a soft look, distressing mediums give it a great antique look and paint can make it very modern
•  You can write directly onto the canvas with any permanent marker
•  Make creative canvases with photos – try cutting them apart and piecing them back together in squares, circles or puzzle

The Crafter's Workshop Stencil how-to with Judi Kauffman

The Crafter's Workshop Stencil how-to with Judi Kauffman

If you want to fill in the areas in the same way as you would with paint, tape the stencil in place and outline each shape with Pentouch Calligrapher. Remove the stencil and fill the shapes with a Pentouch Medium. Repeat several times so you can use a variety of sections of the stencil, moving it as needed.
Supplies
  • Adhesive: ZipDry Paper Glue (Beacon Adhesives)
  • Art tools: Pentouch® ink in Gold, Silver, and White – extra fine, fine, and medium point, Pentouch® Calligrapher in Gold and Silver – fine and medium, Pigma Micron® (Sakura of America)
  • Embellishments: Window Charms (Close To My Heart)
  • Papers: Printed (The Crafter's Workshop); solid (artist's own)
  • Photo printer and paper: Epson Stylus R1900, Premium Photo Paper Glossy (Epson)
  • Stencil: Flower Shower 12" stencil (The Crafter's Workshop)
Instructions
Options:
1. Start with patterned printed scrapbook papers, as shown, or use solid color cardstock.

2. Use porous (uncoated) papers as shown, or choose coated (shiny, non-porous) surfaces.

3. Make any size scrapbook page or card (the card shown is 6" x 12" while the layout is only 8" square).

4. Use more than one photo.

5. If you don't want to mar the stencils, not even a tiny bit, use a Black Pigma Micron® 005 which is a very fine line, to outline the shapes and remove the stencil before starting to fill the shapes with Pentouch inks. The Micron 005 nib is very delicate so if you don’t write with a light touch a thicker nib is recommended.

6. Add more stenciled details, journaling, dimensional embellishments, hand or machine stitching, brads, glitter, etc., to make the projects your own.

7. Combine smooth cut edges with torn shapes.

8. If your text isn't quite bright enough, outline it with a black Pigma Micron pen.

9. Highlight the focal area of a photo with a clear Window Charm (see: "Q.T." the woodpecker) and add more window charms in varying sizes to give the effect of winter ice.

10. Choose a stencil that more literally illustrates the theme of the card or layout and closely matches the subject of the photo (leaves, snowflakes, holiday ornaments, etc.).

11. Many of the stencils from The Crafter's Workshop are available in two sizes (6" or 12"). Vary the scale of the shapes and patterns by using either, or both. For projects shown, I chose the 12" stencil.

12. Note that on "Love those Leaves" ONE of the sections of the stencil is left as an outline to show how it looks before it is filled with the Medium Pentouch. See if you can find it!
